We got a call from our case manager this morning saying that we "might not be able to travel" as planned. They have "indefinitely" postponed all embassy appointments due to an investigation into CWA Ethiopia adoptions. We have been aware of the "issues" with CWA for some time now, so that part is not new to us. Several months ago, there was a news report in Australia that CWA Ethiopia was obtaining children illegally. As this was reported, CWA investigated the problems and have have been investigated by third parties. That caused a bit of a stir, but now CBS (US) chose to air the story here in the states a couple of weeks ago. I will be honest and say I do not know all of the details to all of this story or what has happened between CWA, the allegations of the Australian Broadcasting Company and ABC (US), and the investigations that have taken place. What I do know is that our experience and several other families that we are in regular contact with who also use CWA, have had nothing but a positive relationship with CWA. Adoption is not an easy road and there are many questions that CWA cannot answer and cannot be held responsible for and they are very up-front with that from the very start. I also know that there are thousands of orphaned children in Ethiopia who need homes, and the "allegations" made by CBS and ABC (Australia) have severely interrupted the process and the good things that CWA does.
CWA has publicly responded to the allegations made on these broadcasts. To read CWA's official statement click here. To view YouTube videos of CWA's attorney being interviewed by ABC (Australia) (that were never aired in their published broadcast!) click here. (Select the video segments you want to watch on the right side of the page, ie. "Fly Away Children Response Part 1").
Nate and I have decided that we will be leaving Friday, regardless of the decision that is made about us being able to keep our Embassy appointment on March 9. We feel like this is the best decision for our family and for Levi. It does mean that we could be in Ethiopia for an indefinite time until this issue gets settled. It is scary, but we are trusting that God will continue to guide us on this journey. We appreciate your continued prayers and support.

This past month has been very difficult for me. On Feb 1 I lost a good friend to cancer. She found out 2 weeks before Christmas she even had cancer. Feb 5 th I went to her funeral and later that night my twin who lives in Iowa called to tell me my dad committed suicide. Iowa is where my dad was from. My dad's wife died 2 years ago Christmas day from cancer. He had a very hard time dealing with that.. We found out by the funeral director that my dad was full of cancer. I know no doctor told him this because my twin would try to get him to go to the doctor and when she could not she called me to see if I could get him to go. I went to Iowa in Aug trying to get him to the doctor because his feet and legs were so full of fluid. He would not go. He said his dad did the same and brushed it off. I believe my dad had cancer in his brain also because my twin said he been acting and doing strange things these past few months. My heart is so heavy because of my dad. Back in Sept my left arm swelled and I had pain. I had a mamogram done (at which I have had yearly for 10 years now) and it came back negative. No real answer to why I had the pain and swelling. I have been still having pain so I decided on way home from my dad's funeral I would go to doctor again. My doctor sent me to the surgeon and they did an ultrasound this time and found a mass on my breast. I will be going for surgery March 3 for biopsy and removal. I am really struggling with everything now and need prayers.
Thank you, Lana Keppeler, Great Banquet, Bryan Ohio

"Due to the poor economy especially in the construction industry I recently lost my job. Today I was on the internet and came across a local Christian website that I didn't even know existed and saw the listing for a position with Habitat for Humanity. I have always dreamed of working with a non-profit organization. Since most of my experience is working for construction related companies, including more than 10 years for a home builder, this just sounded ideal. The cut-off to apply was last Friday but I sent my information anyway. I am asking for your prayers that I be considered for this position. Of course as in all things I am praying that God's will, not mine, be done. I am trusting that God has a plan for me and understand that the plan may very well take me on a journey that could include a different career path as well as a different city and state. These are scary times but each day before I get up I try to remind myself that God has given me all I need for that day. Your prayers would be much appreciated as I travel down this road. Thank you all!!!"

They have found a mass on my right kidney that they believe is cancerous. I will be having surgery to remove it on march 2. We are praying and believing that this will not be malignant.

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've talked or shared email with some of you. Most of you though, are aware Sue and I have been going to Ghana, West Africa to plant new Methodist churches. This email is just to let you know we are about to leave for our trip this year (Feb 19 through Mar 2).
We very much covet your prayers! Attached is a card that you can print out to assist with specific prayer needs if you are so inclined. One additional personal prayer that won't appear on the card is for our son Phillip who is coming back to "house-sit" for us while we are gone.
If you would like to follow our activities, see pictures, movie clips and even communicate back to our team as we go along, we have a blog set up for just that! Go to: www.dumcghana2010.blogspot.com
Not so much on there yet but we will start posting Saturday evening after we arrive. If you would like to review the trip in 2009 to get a feel for what we are up to, check out last year's blog at: www.dumcghana2009.blogspot.com

I have been accepted into I.U. Bloomington. If everything goes as planned
then I will have a full ride for four years. So if you could pass this on say

Many of the Emmaus community know Lorilei VerLee and her work with Haitian Artisans for Peace International in Mizak, Haiti.
I am on a mission team going to Mizak on Friday. We will be bringing first aid supplies for the Mizak Health Clinic; spending time
with the children in Peace Pals, and doing health clinics in refugee camps. The trip was planned before the quake and our flight
will be on the first day commercial flights have been allowed since the quakes. Please ask the Community for a quick prayer for
the mission, that we accomplish what God will have us do.
Your Sister in Christ,
Tamara Kreigh
(If anyone is interested, here is the website with a link to the Mizak Health Clinic: www.haitianartisans.com) Thank you.
