Hogsett ~ 2003 NIEC Spiritual Director
One
of my goals as the Spiritual Director of the North Indiana
Emmaus Community for 2003 is to clarify and share with the
Emmaus community how the clergy team for a walk is chosen,
who is eligible to serve as the Spiritual Director of a
walk, and other matters as to how clergy are involved in
the Emmaus movement. When I was the section Spiritual Director
for the North East, and later when I became the Community
Spiritual Director, I received a lot of oral information
concerning these issues. Sometimes there was agreement,
sometimes there wasn't, and sometimes it was uncertain as
to where the bit of information had its source. The end
result was that members of the community were operating
on different information which at times caused confusion
and conflict.
At the
March 2003 meeting of the Emmaus Board, the following 'Guidelines
for the Selection of a Walk Spiritual Director' were adopted.
I would like to share them with you as a part of the Emmaus
Community for your information and any possible feedback.
I would hope and pray that they would help us to all be
on the same page.

recommendation from the community spiritual director,
the Emmaus Board will maintain and update a list of those
eligible to be spiritual directors.
- From
time to time requests may be made to have clergy added
to the approved list. These requests should be submitted
to the community spiritual director who will verify the
person's qualification to serve as a spiritual director
and then, when appropriate, submit the name to the Emmaus
board for inclusion on the list of persons eligible to
serve as spiritual directors.
